Molten WoW Guide: Cataclysm Greymane Realm

greymane

Below is a brief a description and FAQ about our upcoming Cataclysm realm - Greymane. For the past months Molten Staff has been very hard at work maintaining and developing world's best Wrath of the Lich King realms, having held anniversary festivities, new year holidays as well as developing the highly demanded and awaited Molten's first Cataclysm realm.

We intend to ensure that, compared to competition Cataclysm servers, Greymane is the highest quality private server realm worldwide and the least bugged, by far exceeding realms offered on any other private server. We are very well aware of players' expectations from Molten's quality and the responsibility that we have.

REALM CHARACTERISTICS
Realm name: Greymane
Launch date: February 1, 2012

Content version: 4.0.6a (versions 4.2.2a and 4.3.0 are too bugged on private servers and are undergoing development)
Rates: Blizzlike x5
Location: Europe

FAQ
Will the Cataclysm realm be as good as Wrath of the Lich King realms?
Not at start. Many of us remember how bugged Wrath of the Lich King used to be in 2009, back when "Northrend spawned!" was an achievement. Cataclysm is at early stages of being playable and has many bugs. However it is also being highly developed at a very fast pace. We can assure that Molten's Cataclysm realm - Greymane will be the best, most working and least bugged Cataclysm realm compared to any other private server. Our players also know how well Molten takes care of the quality, performance, stability and security of it's realms and that we will focus on daily, aggressive bug fixes based on player feedback. Greymane is currently being tested internally and we are comparing our own development to that of the competition, and we already know that we have excelled. For another month we will continue focusing on important issues that our Quality Assurance team discovers, mainly for Goblin and Worgen starting zones.

Will there be transfers from other private servers?
No. Molten never offered transfers from other private servers and does not intend to do so.

What will the player cap be?
Realm's capacity is currently not known. Stability and realm's capacity will be set at a later stage. In the long term we expect good performance and stability that our Wrath of the Lich King realms have.

Will there be vote items and donation items?
Naturally, yes. But Cataclysm database support is not developed well and is at a very early stage. This includes items, quests, NPCs and many other in-game content which requires time to develop, just like Wrath of the Lich King database used to be.

Will all instances be open?
Instances will be opened after they are scripted. There will be no tank'n'spank. Our report shows that other existing Cataclysm private servers are plagued by exploits, hacks and cheaters who have taken advantage of poorly developed and maintained realms causing damage to in-game economies and overall health of realm's balance. Instances and raids will be available gradually as soon as they are scripted as on retail and offer a challenge.

Will character transfers from Molten's Wrath of the Lich King realms be available?
Not in near future. We intend to maintain and develop our Wrath of the Lich King realms as long as our huge community desires, and will not lure existing players into migrating. In future, depending on population and popularity, we are looking to make changes to existing realms which will give a choice to all Wrath of the Lich King players to upgrade their characters to Cataclysm. Those decisions will be taken based on community feedback and only after upgrade possibility is developed.

MAJOR UPDATE COMING OCTOBER 3, 2011!
A major changelog with many bug fixes is scheduled for tomorrow (October 3, 2011). Full list of fixes will be posted in the changelog and all realms will be also updated 24 hours after the stability is confirmed. The changelog includes Brewfest fixes and the schedule will be extended by 9 days to allow all players experience the missing event.

UPCOMING WARSONG AND OTHER REALMS' PvP ENHANCEMENTS
We are working on Warsong improvements as per this poll as well as a few other PvP-oriented enhancements for all realms. Upcoming changelog will also include some PvP oriented fixes such as experience gain in battlegrounds according to realm rates. With this in mind, we are currently considering making Warsong also available for low-level characters (twinks) who would be able to compete in low-level battlegrounds and enable/disable experience gain at any time.

CONTINUED PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS
As a necessary step in our efforts to ensure best performance on all our realms population cap of all realms will be set to 3000 players in near future. This is parallel to Ragnaros realm launch and free character transfers.

Paladin Strategies

Gear
Standard gear rules apply here, resilience and stamina should always be your priorities, in that order. With PvP gear being  readily available from all avenues of gameplay you should have no problem obtaining the necessary gear level to compete in arenas, if you can get the bulk of your gear from badges then use arena points for weapons and honor points for rings and trinkets.

Popular Talent Builds
All talent builds fare well in arenas, how you spec your arena Paladin really depends on your team composition and personal prefrence in play style.

2v2 - Holy or Prot pallies are popular in 2vs2 bracket. Prot pallies are stacking massive spellpower, with proper talents a Prot pally is a nearly infinite mana machine that pairs well with other plate wearers.

3v3 and 5v5 - Holy or Ret dominate these brackets. Holy tends to be the most common of all specs in all brackets but many burst teams go with a Ret Paladin for both pure power and increased survivability.

Tactics
Being a hybrid class brings with it some added responsibilites in an arena setting. Your ability to heal, damage, absorb damage and cleanse means your team will lean heavily on you when things go bad. Being able to recognize what role to fill quickly, regardless of spec, will seperate the good from great arena players.

If the other team focuses you first, they want you to blow your bubble as quickly as possible. Try to delay it as much as you can, as they will then focus on your teammates then return to finish you off. If this happens, be ready with a blessing of protection on your teammate(s) so you disrupt their strategy.

Avoid using your bubble on fears or sheeps unless absolutely necessary, as mentioned above, the main point a team will try to make when seeing a paladin is trying to make them waste their bubble so they can have the upper hand. Use your PvP trinket!

Avoid being manadrained or manaburned. As meager as the mana drained is, it stacks up, and you will end up losing due to out of mana woes should it follow through a few times. Use your stun or any sort of interrupt (or go out of range) when this begins to happen.

Warlock Strategies

Gear
As an arena player, you must keep in mind that your gear will need to vary significantly from the PvE gear you're used to having. For all specs, you will need Resilience gear, and resilience / stamina gems in them. Currently each level of badge gear vendor has a set of PvP armor available for you to purchase, so you can earn PvP gear by doing heroic dungeons and raids as well as by gaining arena and BG points.

Why do you need stamina and resilience over spellpower and the others? Simple, high crits will kill you quickly, and you want to avoid that as much as possible. Once you have enough arena points to spend, you should first spend them on rings and trinkets.

Affliction: Effective in all arena matchups, this build lets you cast unstable affliction on your enemies, stopping the paladins from mass-cleansing your DoTs or forcing the paladins/priests to heal themselves or bubble instead of cleansing themselves! Should they do it anyway, it's a surefire damage spike that can lead to your victory. Don't forget to use instant Howl of Terror!

Destruction: High and fast numbers, protection vs shadowpriests and warlocks - this build allows you to use a high damage output at the expense of no DoTs and less mana than the others. Ideal in 2v2 and 3v3, starts to lack some in 5v5s that are not burst teams. If paired with another high damage class like mage or another warlock with the same spec you may see numbers rising quickly, goal being to kill your enemies before your mana runs out and before they can heal.

Demonology: Stability - you will be nearly unkillable if they focus you since you use soul link and have improved resilience and HP thanks to the demonology tree's talents, your goal should be to DoT your target and cast fears around to disrupt enemy tactics while having your pet on the healer / manauser.

Tactics
Pet choice should almost always be a felhunter. Succubus and Voidwalker are good in some matchups, but since you can't know who you're up against and there's almost always a mana user, you should have a felhunter out at all times. Plus, the insignia to remove impairing effects will make your succubus a one-trick pony who's very easy to take out.

Before you start, you should hand out healthstones and buff everyone with Detect Invisibility, if you're on a 5v5 (or on high 3v3s), buff everyone with waterbreathing last as well, so when a purge or dispel comes, they take that out first instead of another important buff.

If you see a paladin, either try to burst him down to low HP so he bubbles (or dies) and wastes it, before dotting him up for the final kill. Curse of Tongues works wonders on paladins and priests, followed up by a Fear.

Fear is your friend, use it, abuse it. Along with Curse of Tongues, it should be one of your priorities during a fight (aside from DPSing)!

Shadowburn is very, very useful on targets - use it to add pressure to a healer or finish off another player. You will not be reimbursed a shard should the target die, but you can easily just go find new shards to use to your advantage.

If you're on a 3v3 or a 5v5 and notice the fight is going too long, or if your goal is to outlast the enemy team, use Drain Mana on the enemy healer. It will singlehandedly shift the battle around since the healer will either burn all his mana way quicker, or go out of range so your other teammates take advantage of this and kill whoever he/she was supporting.

Basic Arena Strategies and Tactics

The Arena is a marvelous place full of interesting and unique strategies. However, you’ll never become a pro without a good solid foundation of the basics. Even if you are really good, it never hurts to look back at some fundamental tips that are good for everyone.

Basic Arena Strategies and Tactics

• The arena is all about class combinations, talent builds, and the overall makeup of the team. Come up with a plan before hand to maximize the potential of both players. However, even with a strong combination remember that skill with almost always trump group design.

• Gear is important. The Arena PvP gear will mostly serve you better than a full set of PvE gear. Be sure that your gear matches your build and your enchants/jewels are set for exactly what you need. Preparation.

• Never charge in against the enemy. See what they are and adjust your tactics depending on what classes they are. Never charge in unless you’re burst DPS and your goal is just to take them down fast.

• Keep up with what’s popular in the arena. Follow the community and see trends. Speculate or assume what your enemy will have.

• In a 3v3 or 5v5 it’s safe to focus fire down certain pets, like the Felhunter, which can single handily take down your team.

• Make sure you have plenty of bandages before going into battle. While not always the best course of action, using bandages can sometimes save you in the midst of battle. They’re one of the few consumables allowed.

• Before the match, make sure to create anything like Health Stones that will aid you in battle. While you can’t trade them, they can certainly help you a lot.

• Don’t be afraid to talk about what your groups goal is in battle. Work out strategies and tactics with your team before going to fight. What are you going to do and what are they going to do?

• Make sure you have plenty of offense. Offense is always the best defense. If you can kill the enemy before they can kill you then there is no need to defend yourself.

• Don’t be afraid to spend mana to get someone dead. The arena matches rarely last out long enough that your mana supply will become essential. However, do not waste mana. If the fight lasts long enough for your entire mana bar to be gone then you’ll be in trouble. Especially if they have plenty of mana left.

• Don’t attack Warriors first. Warriors not only are rather beefy, but attacking them just gives them rage. Take down another class first, if possible. Weaker targets like Priests are good choices.

• If your trinket is up, use it to break the first fear. After the first fear the next ones will begin just rolling off of you.

• Avoid Hunter traps and being kited. Don’t let them kill you while you’re trying to catch up to them. Work with your team mates to form a strategy to keep someone still long enough to catch up.

• Avoid “cookie cutter” builds. If your enemy can instantly assume what your talent builds are and what your tactics will be then you’ll have a much harder time defeat them.

• Use some form of VoIP to talk with your team mates. WoW’s upcoming in-game voice chat, Ventrilo, or Teamspeak are all good choices.

Molten WoW Guide: Alliance Leveling 1-80

Introduction

This guide was created to help people level quickly and efficiently while still being able to afford training, mounts and gear. I utilize images and icons to give you a visual que in the guide when it's time to repair, get some help for a quest, or travel. There are also seperated sections that will point out places you can earn money or get a neat item. No addons are required in order to use this guide. Additionally, this guide is completely solo-able. Lastly, this guide assumes you have all expansion packs related to World of Warcraft.

How To Use This Guide

This guide is formated for easy reading and easy leveling. Every 10 levels or equivlent zones are seperated into chapters. In each Chapter the steps you need to take are numbered. Beneath the numbered steps are additional instructions to help you along the way. All quests are linked to WoWHead. There are no locs or coords given in the guide so if you are having trouble with a quest, follow the link and you may find the assistance that you need. When you are ready to begin choose the appropriate starting chapter according to what race your starting zone you chose to level in.

Key

Indicated at the top of each chapter you will find a link to the key as shown below. These are the images I use in my guide and what they mean.
ImageMeaning
Sell Repair RestockSell. Repair. Restock. This is the icon you will see the most often. This is just a reminder icon to tell you to unload/reload your packs before heading out again.
HearthstoneHearthstone. This icon indicates you will be using or setting your hearthstone.
Flight PathFlight Path. This icons means you will be collecting a new flight path. Don't forget it or you'll be doing more travel than strictly necessary.
FlyTravel. This icon is here to show you that you will need to fly or otherwise travel to a different place in order to complete the step.
GroupGroup. This icon means you will be doing a quest that is hard to solo. Most quests in this guide are solo-able but they are easier if you have help.
Save for LaterSave for Later. This icon means you need to save a particular item for a later quest or other use.
Go ShoppingGo Shopping. This icon means you will need to purchase an item from a vendor or the Auction House in order to complete a quest.
Phat Loot!Phat Lewts. This icon marks a section that doesn't necessarily benefit your leveling or gold funds. These steps are for reputation grinds and farming sessions in order to get access to neat, rare items or achievements. These items may or may not be of any real use to you. Areas marked with this icon are completely skippable.
GoldOpportunity Knocks. And you should answer! Sections marked by this icon will show you potential areas to make some gold. While these steps are skippable, I don't recommend skipping all of them because they are a major source of funds for you as you level.
